The CCP Arthouse Cinema: Progamming the Pandemic

The CCP Arthouse Cinema is a year-round cinema programming geared towards the cultivation of film literacy through screenings of films, videos, and new media complemented by discussions and lectures. Its rich history can be traced back to the Experimental Cinema of the Philippines (ECP) established in 1982 and housed in the infamous Manila Film Center.  The CCP Arthouse Cinema now screens its programs in the Tanghalang Manuel Conde of the Cultural Center of the Philippines.

The CCP Arthouse Cinema Project: Programming the Pandemic catalog documents a disruption in its long history. It is a compendium of critical essays on the curatorial design of the CCP Arthouse Cinema programming and the ad hoc methods put in place in 2020 and 2021 to address the challenges brought by the COVID-19 pandemic. By providing preliminary literature on the cinema programming, archiving, and cultural administration of the CCP Arthouse Cinema during a pivotal time, this documentation likewise walks the readers through the previously unwritten institutional history, technological infrastructures, and dynamics embedded in a state-sponsored initiative instituted to support radical cinema.
